AEGON Repays One Third Of Government Funds
The company secured capital last year through its shareholder, Vereniging AEGON
AEGON has repaid one third of the E3 billion in core capital that the company secured last year through its shareholder, Vereniging AEGON and funded by the Dutch government.
AEGON first planned to repay the Dutch government in August when it raised E1 billion in an equity issue.
The total payment to the Dutch government amounts to E1.15 billion. As per the terms of AEGON's agreement with the Dutch government, the premium for repayment amounted to E108m based on the volume weighted average share price of AEGON shares of E4.8315. The amount repaid includes accrued interest from May 22, 2009 of E44m.
Repayment of the initial E1 billion to the Dutch government is an important first step towards full repayment of the core capital funded by the Dutch government.
AEGON is a The Hague, Netherlands-based life insurance, pension and investment company.
