UK independent broker Aston Scott acquires Bell & Co

IBR Staff Writer Published 07 March 2017

UK-based Aston Scott has acquired rival chartered insurance broker Bell & Co for an undisclosed price.

The transaction represents the first acquisition of the independent insurance broking group in the year.

Aston Scott expects to sign more acquisition deals in the coming months.

Based in Derby, Bell & Co has been in the insurance broking business for more than 35 years.

It has a client base of over 3,000 in Derbyshire County and its nearby regions.

Bell & Co managing director Richard Salt said: “We have been talking to Aston Scott and building foundations over the course of the last year and we look forward to becoming part of a larger independent broking group.

“We are aiming to grow Bell & Co in Derby to £20m gross written premium over the next few years and as part of Aston Scott we will be very well positioned to achieve this.”

The acquired Derby broker had recently shifted its offices at the County Ground in Derby. Bell & Co’s managing director Richard Salt is expected to be supported by Aston Scott in implementing his ambitious expansion plans in the area.

Aston Scott group CEO Peter Blanc said: “We are delighted to welcome Richard, Helen, David and the team from Bell & Co to the Aston Scott family. The two businesses have a lot in common; both chartered, independent and client focussed.”

As per its new parent, Bell & Co will retain its brand despite the acquisition. The Derby insurance broker has a workforce of over 25.

Aston Scott’s earlier acquisition before the transaction with Bell & Co was of Essex-based First Commercial Insurance Brokers in January 2016.
