Wal-Mart Embraces US Government Insurance Coverage Plans
Company supports the proposal that requires large corporations to provide health insurance
Wal-Mart has agreed to comply with President Barack Obama’s plan to provide insurance coverage to the Americans. The company stated that it supports the proposal that requires large corporations to provide health insurance to its employees – reported Money Times.
The retail company has provided health insurance to about 52% of its 1.4 million US employees, an increase from 46% three years ago. Moreover, the company has reduced the waiting time for reaping benefits for both its full and part-time workers.
Wal-Mart has joined SEIU, a union that intends to provide healthcare for Americans by 2012. In a letter to President, Wal-Mart stated, “Not every business can make the same contribution, but everyone must make some contribution.”
David Tovar, a Wal-Mart Spokesman, said: “An essential goal of health-care reform is to insure as many of the uninsured as possible and to bring the cost of health care down.”
